here and there
here in vermont breaking from a long studio day. found this digging around in my old notebooks. thinking on nyc (in over a week) and my newfound love of the walk i think it deserves a post...
New York was an inexhaustable place, a labryinth of endless steps...It walways left him with the feeling of being lost. Lost, not only in the city, but within himself as well. Each time he took a walk he felt as though he were leaving himself behind, and by giving himself up to the movement of the streets, by reducing himself to a seeing eye, he was able to escape the obligation to think, adn this, more than anything else, brought him a measure of peace, a salutory emptiness within. -paul auster, the New Yok Trilogy
